'DARK MATTER' COLLECTION – IMAGINING WHAT LIES WITHIN THE MYSTERIOUS CAVITIES ON MARS
In 2010, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured images of black spots on the planet’s surface, which are so dark that nothing inside can be seen. Imagining what might lie below the surface of these mysterious holes sparked this collection of lamps, in which each lamp was born from a separate hypothesis. OTI represents a hanging cross-section of a spherical cave network. It dims with a character all of it's own. IUS takes its inspiration from long creatures hanging from a cave wall. It illuminates when curved into a closed loop. LYOT hints at a floating space forced into shape by an internal crystalline shard. SIBU is an invented piece of tectonic ground-matter. It turns on with a shearing action. Collectively, the lamps play with a combination of enticing user-interaction / functionality and creative explorations of LED technology.
