Inside the home there are rooms such as the bathroom that are susceptible to dirt due to the presence of water and moisture, and if you are not meticulous enough, then in time, they could turn into horrible stains, grime and black mold. The shower and the bathtub are the places most affected by these problems, however, if immediately attended to and once you acquire that habit of regular cleaning, then those pesky dirt can easily be solved.

Reasons for cleaning grime and black mold

Let's differentiate two types of dirt that can affect any shower, however elegant it may be. First, there would be the grime. A mineral that permeates the screens, taps or tiles, creating a matte layer on them which prevent them from shining. Cleaning is an aesthetic issue, but also functional, especially in the faucets or hinges of the screens, since their accumulation can prevent them from operating properly.

While in the case of black mold, we are talking about an element that creates living bacteria, and whose accumulation can even be a health risk. That is why it is essential to clean it regularly, in addition, the more you take time and delay its cleaning, the more those black molds become stronger. It is a living element and therefore it can become more complicated once it spreads.

Both ammonia and hydrogen peroxide are very effective cleaning agents for removing black mold that is created in the joints of shower trays and tiles. However the difference is that ammonia (preferably clear) is a toxic product, while hydrogen peroxide is not. Ammonia are available in drugstores, while hydrogen peroxide are sold in pharmacies. The latter is suitable for removing mold from any type of surface, while ammonia is suitable for tiles and glass. The method of application are very similar for both cleaning agents, since the two are sprayed onto the affected surface. In the case of using ammonia, the substance is mixed equally with water, then it should be allowed to dry well before using a cloth to clean the designated area.

The truth is that vinegar is the best anti-calc product that exists. In fact, those grime cleaners that are marketed is sure to carry vinegar among its ingredients. The grime where it is most visible in a shower is in the mesh on top of the drain, although it also accumulates on the faucet and on the tiles. In any of these surfaces, cleaning with vinegar, salt and water is quite simple and easy. Mixing everything, drenching a cloth with this liquid and rubbing it on the areas with grime. And in the case of the drain, obviously the interior, the mouth of the drain that is under the mesh, is where more grime accumulates, of course, you should not hesitate to clean these parts as well. Once rubbed with the soaked cloth and then a dry cloth afterwards, then you can start with polishing. If you want everything to be shiny, then you may use a window cleaner.

Deep cleaning with hydrochloric acid

Hydrochloric acid is a chemical formula used as a household cleaning product, and is also known as murine acid. This chemical is very strong, in fact, this is what you use to eliminate the most resistant black mold in your showers or bathtubs.

Here is the first advice: Use this product cautiously!

When you use it, make sure there is as much ventilation as possible. Of course never touch the acid directly, and always wear gloves. Do not merely estimate, measure the portions and make the mixture has a one is to three parts of water ratio. Wear gloves! When applying, do so with care on affected areas and without splashing. Then clean the area well with a brush and let it act for half an hour. After that, use plenty of water to wash it off and let it air dry for a while before drying it with a cloth.

Other cleaning methods

There are still more products and remedies to eliminate grime and mold, which as we have said can become a health problem, which can cause respiratory conditions. Here are some other remedies. For example you may clean glass or tiles with the use of detergents, they clean both the grime and the mold, although, it will not totally kill those molds and fungi as they will remain there dormant, invisible only for the moment. On the other hand, they do away with natural fungicides such as tea tree oil. However, in any case, the best method would be to always maintain the cleanliness in the bathroom. Without regular cleaning, the problem of mold will just get worse and expand, until it becomes a real headache. So much so that in the end, to solve it, there is only the solution of calling the professionals, who are nothing other than exterminators for these types of bacteria.

Use preventive measures

Black mold is inherent to moisture. In the bath, there is moisture that remains after showering, here, the joints between the tiles absorb the steam. All this is the place in which molds propagate. Sooner or later you're going to have to clean it with any of the methods aforementioned, but there are also preventive measures. A very simple one is to be attentive. After showering, do not leave the curtain so that it doesn't create small puddles. Another preventive remedy is to use borax or boron salt to clean. It is used to ward off mold spores, this can also achieved by using grapefruit seed extract. And finally, a very useful preventive measure is by opening your eyes well and see where the mold arises where certain grooves appear. And if it is always in the same places and you even notice rotten scents, it may be a plumbing problem that only a plumber can fix.
