Even the smallest addition of storage to the bedroom will make a difference; that pile of books and magazines will now have a home.

Bedside tables are extremely useful when storing books, magazines and any other trinkets that can fit into drawers or take up little space. This leaves much more room in the rest of the apartment.

3. Go minimal in the bathroom

We all tend to get into bad habits in the bathroom; we leave bottles around, towels draped over things, toilet roll left in the corner. So why not go for a minimalist style in your bathroom?

This style does wonders for the average small apartment, so think about what it could do for one under 40sqm! Adopt a minimal approach to all of your physical things when thinking about buying for the bathroom.

4. Find the tallest shelves you can

Using very tall shelves will give you access to tons of space you wouldn't usually use or think about. Stack things up and up and up, and use a stool to reach the top shelves when necessary. This way, you have plenty of storage and display space for your books and knick-knacks!

In small apartments, space is invaluable, so tall shelves that span the whole wall up to the ceiling are perfect.

5. Beanbag furniture
