In the Corkmatters series, cork is crafted in a way never seen before. The physical properties of cork are explored to an utmost aesthetic use. They are made with an unique technique that combines laser cutting technology with a non-pollutant handmade shaping process, unfolding 2 dimensional cork agglomerate sheets into 3 dimensional shapes, resulting in semi-stiff almost sculptural objects.

The lamps give a warm and cozy light, casting beautiful shadows and creating a pleasant ambience. The table products present beautiful organic and curvy shapes that catch your eye due to its harmony.

Eco-design at its best with all natural, sustainable and non-pollutant materials (excluding the electrical parts). All Corkmatters products are hand made at Tiago Sá da Costa Studio, with all the care and personal attention that cork and the technique require.

Sustainability and environmental awareness are one of the main focus of the Corkmatters series, so these products are made with an ecological and sustainable concern, being only made out of natural materials: Portuguese natural cork agglomerate (pure cork particles with no additional binding agents) with a shellac coating. The packaging is recyclable (Carton and paper tape) and biodegradable (corn based loose filling pellets) without using any plastics.

About the cork: cork is one of the most sustainable materials you can use, besides being a natural material, non-pollutant and biodegradable, it comes from the bark of a tree and can be harvested every 7 to 9 years, not being necessary to cut down its tree to harvest it. With the wine industry dropping the use of cork stoppers, people should be aware that using cork actually helps keeping the cork tree forests alive and its biodiversity. That otherwise would be cut down so the land can be used for something else. Besides the fact that a cork tree absorbs more CO2 if harvested and the cork itself also absorbs CO2 even after being harvested. Cork is a beautiful natural material that has several ecological benefits from its use.
