As Corpus Rub Massage Studio in Amsterdam works its magic on clients’ bodies, designer Sherrie Zwail works her magic on their interiors. A once humdrum space has been transformed into a charming Zen lounge, reception, and private rooms.
Corpus Rub Massage Studio has been located on the Van Breestraat in Amsterdam since 2004. Clients raved about the service but complained about noise, ventilation, and lack of privacy in the massage rooms. As a client herself, Sherrie noticed the need for a rework of the layout, acoustics, and cosmetic upgrades. So when the owners asked her to do a professional remodel addressing the sound and ventilation issues, she used veteran tricks of the trade to align feedback, function, and feng shui.
To address the acoustic issues, Sherrie started at thefront door. Visitors now have to remove their shoes and exchange them for cozy slippers. Existing wood laminate was replaced with soft, and nearly silent, rubber flooring. The open staircases were closed up to create peace and quiet and finally, a soundless new ventilation system was installed to circulate fresh air throughout the studio.
Several elements, from the owners personal art collections, were used which adds a special energy and flair to the styled environment. All the materials were carefully chosen to not only meet the sound and hygenic requirements but also to create a space where one can feel totally relaxed.
