Description

BOUNCE is a foam sculpture, which transforms into a soft and comfortable chair at the moment when someone sits down. It adapts totally to any kind of body shape, which gives a maximum of comfort. As a surprising effect, the chair bounces back up, after its user left and becomes sculpture again. The symmetrical shape of the chair invites to sit in it from every side.

The production is simple. Two foam plates are glued together and build the body of each chair. Covered by the flexible fabrics of the dutch brand Febrik every chair gets its unique character. It is fascinating how materials are able to change shape and transform their functions again and again. Normal furniture foam can be used in so many different ways and define a chair totally new.

The BOUNCE family consists of three members Anton, Christine and Olaf. Big Anton surrounds its user with back and side support, while soft Christine is a comfortable chair and sweet Olaf has the function of a stool.

Social aspect

The BOUNCE family is a talking-peace which brings people together. To sit on one of the chairs is an event, just as the bouncing up of the chair, when the person left. It attracts the attention of other people and they automatically start communicating. I like to experiment with different materials and functions and putting them in unusual contexts to approach a new product. Once I opened up the space for creativity to the maximum, I reduce it to the essential aspects to keep the final product as simple and user-friendly as possible. This often leads to unique products with a strong character.
