Through the years, this double-storey apartment in Amsterdam became a jumble of rooms with an incoherent routing. The challenge for this complete renovation was to make good and clear individual spaces that meet the requirements of the young couple, and that would facilitate their daily routine.

Lowest floor To organise the three main activities (living, dining and cooking) in an open connection, a compact volume was formed in the centre of the house. The volume incorporates the toilet that was moved under the internal staircase to create space for a large open kitchen and a bar. Also the living appears more spacious and lighter after the renovation because the wall is replaced by an open steel structure.

Upper floor Due to the difficult shape of the floor plan it was only possible to make two bedrooms and a bathroom of good proportions and with enough daylight. The corridor has several roof lights and is larger than a traditional corridor; the pleasant space can be seen as an extra multipurpose room. Costum made cabinets separate the corridor from the bedroom while it provides the couple with the storage and laundry space that they desired. A sliding door gives entrance to the compact bathroom that despite its dimensions, is equipped with all conceivable comfort.
