Like many privatised social housing in Amsterdam, this property needed to transform from family home to a one-person-home. With a large garden as greatest asset, the challenge was to relate the spaces that are used most often to the outdoor greenery.

The back facade was completely openend when the (load bearing) walls were removed. By reversing the program, a living kitchen with three double folding doors to the garden became possible. Two trips of custom made cabinets separate the living kitchen with the bedroom while the visibility from the back to the front facade is guaranteed by see throughs in the cabinets: a corridor and a small window.

Besides that the cabinets are introduced as main element to organise the spaces, they also provide the storage in the tiny apartment that the client, a fashion stylist desired. Between the cabinets a very compact bathroom with a separate toilet was made through enough space was created for the desired freestanding bath. Because the home is at ground floor level we could introduce heating over the entire floor. The concrete floor is only painted and furthermore left raw, this also counts for the untreated plywood of which the cabinets are constructed.
